SpotLight: James Hutchinson

By Mitzi Beliveau

Most Monday nights, I go to the Apple Valley Legion Post 1776 in Apple Valley, Minnesota. For the Monday Night Jam Sessions. I find it a pleasure to listen and eat with many of my friends there. Packed with musicians and singers and some of the locals. One of my favorite drummers and singers is James Hutchinson. With a voice to smooth and romance that ladies, James has a voice that is timeless and everlasting. Sturdy, pure, and strong. A real seasoned singer.

The other thing James does is drums to perfection. James is always on the beat and loves his work. I asked him a few questions about his life in the music world.

The first band was Royal Myth that James was with. The second band was, Prince. The third band was BB King. Others included: The V band, Bound band, and The Situation band. The Euphony Band and the Graffiti Band the original Four on the Floor band and finally The Rusty Nails band, but his favorite place to play is his Church, the New Heights/Cross Roads churches worship team.

James, as his friends and family call him, first started playing regularly at the age of 30. James also has a brother who sings and plays the guitar. What an enjoyable experience it must be in James’ family to have music in the house!

James loves what he does, it is a good part of his life. James said, “The thing I love most about what I do. I have a job that I love, and I look forward to doing every day. James also said,” “I love the crowds I get to perform for” and “I get to meet and hang out with some of the greatest musicians in the country just the energy from the fans and my friends.” “I just love my job. It’s truly awesome long live the Rusty Nails band!”

James sings Blues, Rock and Roll, Motown, Jazz, and a little bit of everything.

I asked James if he was to mentor or give advice for someone starting out in the music world, the band life, what would he recommend? James said, “the most important thing of all when starting a band is that you must be devoted and loyal to your craft.” “The most important thing to do when starting a band make sure your hearts in it must have devoted and loyal players. Make sure you have good Financial backing; make sure that you have good equipment to establish your name.”

Thank you, James, for sharing your gifts of music and sharing your insights for anyone wanting to be in a band or start a band. Truly a five-star performer and friend! Click on the links below to find out more information about James Hutchinson.
