Kelli Rae Tubbs
By Mitzi Beliveau
It was at the many Jam Session that I had heard Keli Rae Tubbs play her drum. Kelli Rae as her friends call her is a very accomplish musician and, it is a great honor to write about Kelli Rae. Kelli Rae is one of the few great drummers in America and even fewer women drummers.
Sometimes I feel fortunate to be in the presence of a very talented and well-known musician, Kelli Rae is one of those few people. The last few winters Kelli Rae has performed in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, at the Smoky Mountain Opry.
Based out of Red Wing Kelli Rae has also performed as a drummer and percussionist for the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band.
Kelli Rae told me long ago she performed with Colt .45 Band. Kelli Rae now does freelancing and recently played with Annie Mack and Moses Oakland in the Minnesota Blues Community.
Kelli Rae plays in Minnesota, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. Kelli Rae said her best honor is, “I’m one of the many women drummers being featured in a documentary entitled “Beat Keepers: Women with Rhythm.” The world premiere is September 28, 2019!
I’m looking forward to seeing this. Indeed others have seen Kelli Rae many talents. Kelli Rae also teaches. A well diverse talent and gifts that Kelli Rae shares with others.
When I asked Kelli Rae what type of music she likes and plays for, she said, “I’ve done just about everything: pop, big band, drum corps, blues, smooth jazz, orchestral music, musical theater, contemporary country…even children’s music!”
Kelli Rae Tubbs is a superstar; you can find more about her on her webpage and also as a guest on several podcast events.
